Fashion's Night Out... Leave it to Anna Wintour to create one the most highly anticipated events on the fashion calendar! Fashion's Night Out was created to revive the fashion world and encourage consumerism, as well as putting the 'excitement ' back into shopping. The event is held globally and this year was the first time it was held in Sydney, Australia. Sydney's event was held on the 9th of September a day before the rest of the world. The afternoon started off pouring rain, except that wasn't going to stop me or the rest of the fashion world from attending! Luckily, the Fashion Gods shined upon us, as it stopped raining right when Damien Woolnough (editor of Vogue online) opened the event alongside Kirstie Clements, Collette Dinnigan and Lord Mayor Clover Moore. The opening was amazing! Models including Rachel Rutt, Elyse Taylor, Samantha Harris as well as designers including, Alex Perry, Dion Lee, Nicky and Simone Zimmermann, Camilla and Marc Freeman, Lisa Ho, Carla Zampatti, Bianca Spender, graced the steps of the MLC Centre at Martin Place. This was actually my favourite part of the night, because it represented a celebration and success of the Australian Fashion Industry. With no official schedule I did my best to visit as many stores as possible. There were some stand outs of the night. The Chanel store's basement recreated Karl's Winter Wonderland including a photo shoot! Seeing those exquisite pieces come to life was unbelievable! At Tiffany and Co I was greeted by girls in pretty blue Tiffany dresses. The new Mid City centre, had never ending sales and I was fortunate to walk past a signing with Megan Gale promoting her new swimwear line. There I also ran into Australia's Next Top Model mentor Josh Flinn outside new store USCARI. I picked up one of their goodie bags and I have to say that I loved the live Mannequins in the window! The atmosphere in the Strand Arcade was amazing and there I picked up my second goodie bag of the night a metallic Zimmermann bag with lilac nail polish! I couldn't believe how packed the Bally store was with their famous 'guys corner.' I finally managed to pick up my official Fashion's Night Out T-shirt to support Breast Cancer awareness. Whilst at David Jones all the designers were at their areas mingling with consumers, designers such as Collete Dinnigan, Alex Perry, Lisa Ho, Carla Zampatti and Bianca Spender! The night's atmosphere was amazing and I can't wait till next year!
But what about New York? New York's Fashion Night Out was in fact on during New York Fashion Week! Anna Wintour decided to hype the event even more with Fashion's Night Out: The Show, which featured models such as Gisele Bundchen, Naomi Campbell and Lara Stone gracing the audiences with Vogue's editors picks for fall 2010. Fashion's elite were out in full force and I would've loved to see Rachel Zoe at Pipelime! Here are a few pictures from Sydney's Fashion's Night Out as well as New York!
